Welcome Forest Friends
At Fox in the Forest, the aim is for people to be present in the moment and connected to their natural environment.
Many health issues are created by thinking about the past or worrying about the future and not living in the now.
Combining the healing powers of nature with experience of knowledge of running therapeutic interventions to improve wellbeing, Fox in the Forest provides you with the opportunity to connect with nature whilst improving your physical and mental health.

What is Forest Bathing?
Forest bathing originated in Japan in the 1980s, where it is known as Shinrin-yoku. It is a mindful approach in using all your senses to be in the present by connecting with nature. The forest also provides health benefits from the microbes in the soil, the vitamin D from the sun, and by the trees releasing phytoncide and terpenes; these help the trees communicate and protect themselves against pests and diseases, but they also offer benefits to us.

What does Fox in the Forest offer?
Courses and Workshops are held in local forests in the North West Surrey area.
Sessions are designed for different needs or areas of interest but they all contain the main activities to get the maximum benefit from being in the forest. This includes a focus on engaging all the senses, having a connection to the forest, and time for silence and stillness. They will include a variety of different mindful exercises and provide an opportunity for digital detox with all the benefits this offers.
You will be invited to complete the Fox in the Forest wellbeing rating scale at the beginning and end of the session to measure the impact of your time in nature, and all sessions will end with a tea ceremony and time for reflection.

Hello
My name is Rachel Fox
I'm the founder of Fox in the Forest.
I’m a certified Forest Bathing Guide and an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist, with over 30 years of experience supporting people’s mental health across the NHS. I’ve worked with children, young people and adults, and developed therapy programmes that are still used across Surrey today.
Nature has always been my refuge — from climbing trees as a child to finding peace among them now. Fox in the Forest brings together my love for the natural world and my passion for helping people feel better, in mind and body.
I trained with the brilliant team at Treeming.org, a globally recognised organisation in Forest Bathing, and now I’m so excited to share this journey with you.

FAQs
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably for the weather, with layers to keep warm or cool. Waterproof shoes with a good grip are a must, and a light raincoat is always a good idea — we’ll be outdoors whatever the season brings.
Are there bathroom facilities?
We’ll be in wild, natural spaces — which means no formal toilets. It’s a good idea to plan ahead before you arrive.
What else should I bring?
Please bring any medication you need, a drink to stay hydrated, and a little snack if you like. If anything extra is needed (like a journal or pen), we’ll let you know when you book.
Are there any risks?
The forest is beautiful but can be unpredictable — there might be uneven ground, insects, or low branches. We’ll take care, and your guide carries a first aid kit. You’ll be asked to complete a simple safety form before your session.
What happens if it rains?
Rain is part of the forest’s magic, and sessions go ahead in most weather — just dress to stay warm and dry. If it’s really windy and not safe, we may reschedule with plenty of notice.
What if I can’t make it?
Just email hello@foxintheforest.co.uk as soon as you can. If you give at least 48 hours’ notice, we’ll happily reschedule or arrange a refund.

Is Forest Bathing for Me?
Absolutely! Whether you're new to mindfulness or simply craving some quiet time in nature, these gentle sessions are for anyone looking to slow down, reconnect, and feel more grounded. We also offer sessions specially designed for women, older adults, and parents with children — we’d love to welcome you into the woods. 🌿
